The Founders
Refugee youth advancement coalition is founded by Hamza Farhan and Mustafa Farhan. They first got a glimpse of the challenges and struggles of immigrant children who came to the Fairfax county public school system. They are faced with language barriers and cultural challenges. This is an initiative to provide STEM learning opportunities to youth of our school system and extend a hand of friendship to those who are struggling the most.
Hamza Farhan and Mustafa Farhan team has inspired many youth in their community to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends of friends who have recently immigrated and are struggling in school and outside.
Who we are
We are a team of change-makers who believe that every single youth irrespective of their academic standing , interests , abilities , ethnicity , religion or beliefs can contribute positively in making our community a place where young minds can thrive.
We encourage youth in Northern VA to participate in many different activities we organize. All of our projects are co-designed and delivered with our young people who have the opportunity to get involved in every stage from planning sessions all the way through to executing them.
Ultimately, our mission is to create an inclusive environment and safe space that nurtures friendship, creative learning where young refugees and migrants can gain strength, a sense of empowerment and build on their mental and emotional fortitude, both collectively and as individuals.
Our approach
Our Mission
Our mission is to make sure all young people and children get all the support they need, when they need it, no matter what it is.
Our Vision
We want to build a world where no child or youth feels alone and gets every possible help they need as soon as possible.
The Secret !
That all sounds good but why do we actually really do it
We spend every summer and Fall in our elementary school years either taking part in STEM camps or fixing up STEM kits at home.
We loved doing kitchen science experiments and racing solar cars. Our fondest memories are of doing a smalll blast in our kitchen, spilling out hydraulic fluid while working on a robotic arm and trying to grow vegetables in the wrong season. The thrill of getting a computer back to work after it almost got destroyed from our programming adventures is what got us interested in Computer science and technology. We cannot imagine someones childhood and youth years without these enriching and exciting activities.
We want to provide the same science experience and fun to the youth in our community. We want kids around us to be excited about getting their hands on a solar panel just like we were.
And lastly we just had too much fun doing the crazy experiments the first time and we still have fun doing the STEM stuff with kids today.
