Pakistan is grappling with its worst flooding in living memory. A staggering one-third of the country went. More than 30 million people have been affected over the last few week. The floods have killed at least 1,100 and almost half a million people are forced into relief camps.
Causes
The immediate cause of the catastrophic floods is record rainfall. This year the rain is running at more than 780% above average levels.
Melting glaciers—Pakistan has more glaciers than any other country—is also contributing to the floods, which are linked to climate change.
Disaster Facts
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had described them as the worst natural disaster he had ever seen—not just in Pakistan but anywhere in the world.
The U.N. has stated that $160 million is needed in emergency aid for the ongoing floods
1 million homes have been damaged and more than 700,000 livestock are lost.
Humanitarian relief has started to arrive in the country, but efforts have been hampered by extensive infrastructural damage; over 2,000 miles of roads and 150 bridges have been affected.

Bake sale for Flood Relief
September , 10, 2022: RefugeeYAC took the initiative to set up a bake sale for raising funds for the Pakistan flood survivors. The bake sale was held at ADAMS center.
We tirelessly baked all the cookies and cupcakes and set our table up.
We interacted with a large number of people. Discussing the environmental impact and how global warming was the instigator for the floods.
We also touched upon how the weak infrastructure of Pakistan contributed to the floods creating a disastor at such a massive scale.
The Bake sale was a complete hit. We sold out most of our baked goods.
People made a queue to get a taste of our amazing homemade cupcakes and look at our presentation on the Pakistan Flood situation.
